Item Story

He had a very, very long dream...

He dreamed that he and everyone else had gone on a long, long journey,
Into a land where green grass grew, and where soulful songs were sung.
He dreamed that he sang along with the gentle people of this land,
And danced in the skies with a dragon as beauteous as a jewel.

When he opened his eyes, he was in the sky above a mountain swept by roaring snowstorms.
The green, tranquil land had already been painted crimson by fire and blood,
And the song of that sky-blue bard's lyre was almost drowned in the howling tumult.
And that bejeweled, lovely dragon, like a tender lover,
Had now pierced his neck through with its sharp fangs.

"Farewell, Mother! My journey is ended."
"I shall sleep beneath this white, shining silver... and perhaps this, too, is good."
"Farewell, O lovely bard! And farewell, O lovely dragon!"
"Would that we had met in a different time and place,"
"To meet, to sing and dance together!"
So he thought most sincerely as he lay dying.

"Now then, this great blessing that pulses through my veins,"
"And the lovely sight of the dark universe that gave me birth..."
"They are now yours to inherit."

Objectively the best spear for Physical Rosaria. Even on a main DPS Rosaria this would be better since you still gotta avoid multiple attacks during the fight, potentially get knocked down, switch to other characters for applying Superconduct and Heal/Shield, which makes the 10 second CD effect not as a big deal as other people make it sound. It’s not like the entire fight you only autoattack with Rosaria. It doesn’t work like that. The people defending Crescent Pike do not compare the spears in an actual and practical scenario where there is obvious and considerable autoattack downtime between attack strings.

With Crescent Pike you always have to first worry about getting a particle first before starting your autoattacks, while with Dragonspine Spear you benefit from the stats provided by the spear right away, making it a very pratical spear in a realistic fight. Not to mention Crescent Pike’s effect only lasts 5 seconds which is problematic with Rosaria’s 6 seconds CD on her E, which means a little bit more downtime on Crescent Pike’s effect.

Only doing the maths based on numbers and nothing else doesn’t prove anything. I didn’t even mention Rosaria has one less autoattack than Xiangling. Rosaria’s design is just different and there’s no denying that she can’t take full advantage of Crescent Pike like Xiangling does, but she’s the only character that can take full of advantage of Dragonspine Spear.

It has abysmal attack. If it had the same attack value as crescent it MIGHT even be arguable, but crescent’s broken passive damage and higher base attack make it a no-brainer.

Either way, if you want to use this lance, go ahead, you don’t need to min/max everything or follow what the math guys say since the game’s hardest content can be cleared without even pulling once.

Ya’ll forgetting that Rosaria’s ascensions increase her ATK% so it compensates the subpar base ATK of Dragonspine Spear. Adding the passive effect, it increases its dmg if the target is Cryo afflicted which is very synergistic with her. This polearm is actually good for her. Maybe the BiS 4* weapon for Physical DPS Rosaria.

Xiangling has faster and much more normal attacks (her 4th attack hits 4 quick attacks) than Rosaria that’s why Crescent Pike for Xiangling is kinda OP, but not for Rosaria and other polearm DPS as of the moment.

          • Reply

You can see it that way or you can think that she loses even more potential damage since her ascension stat is ATK% and scales better with better base attack (character base attack + weapon base attack)

Also I’m starting to think that you haven’t even tried Crescent cause it’s insane even on slower attacking polearms (It’s still best on xiangling but very strong on the rest, zhongli does insane damage with it + his phys res down)

Again, if you’re happy using Dragonspine Spear go with it, there’s no need for optimization and min-maxing, but you can’t change the fact that its not objectively better than Crescent as you said before. Also DSS looks way cooler than Crescent since Crescent is kind of hideous

            • Razel on 9 April 2021 at 1:34 am

Yea only thing the DS spear can be relevant, if its Atk percent substat instead of Phys Bonus. Even though Dmg Bonus is more impactful than Attack, most of the time its conditional aka it only affect one type of attack in this case for Rosaria only her normal/charge attack and the weapon passive. Don’t know what happens if you change your goblet into atk percent or cryo dmg bonus though…

It’s actually a lot worse than Pike for Rosaria. Let’s assume both weapons are max refine and level to compare them…

      1) Dragonspine procs for 360% attack every 10 seconds as long as the enemy has cryo. Pike on the other hand, deals 40% attack procs every hit, with 100% uptime as long as you use your skills. From the livestream, it looks like it takes 3 seconds do to Rosario’s full attack combo, which hits 7 times in 5 swings. That means when using Pike, you’ll be able to do your full combo at least 3 times before you would get a second Dragonspine proc. You will hit 21 times, each hit proccing Pike for 40% damage, doing a total of 840% attack worth of damage. That’s more than double the damage of Dragonspine.

      2) Crescent Pike(565) has over 100 more attack than Dragonspine(454). Not only is this important for your total attack, as artifacts use your base attack, but it also means the Dragonspine passive which was already bad, is even worse as it has lower attack to scale off of. It also means that Rosaria’s non-physical damage, aka Cryo, gets weaker.

Having 30% more physical damage does not make Dragonspine better than Pike, since Pike has a godly passive and high attack which is a lot more valuable. The only situation where Dragonspine viable for physical dps is if there’s a polearm character that attacks less than once per second (so slower than claymores) and has no multi-hits, because Pike is just that good.

The thing is you cant have 100% uptime on Crescent Pike since the particle orbs take some time to fly into you and they last only for 5 seconds too and then you need to wait for more particles so the uptime is about half. Also IWinToLose on youtube did the calculations where if Rosarios E is strong enough to proc superconduct and leave cryo on target after that dragonspire would win over pike.

          • FTNR on 16 March 2021 at 8:25 pm
          • Reply

It’s extremely easy to get 100% uptime on Crescent Pike, especially for Rosaria. Her E skill has a 6 second cooldown, and you also get particles from hitting enemies infused with an element, which in this case is Cryo. To compare Rosaria to another Crescent Pike user, Xiangling already has 100% uptime on Crescent Pike as well, despite Gouba having 8 second duration with 12 second cooldown, as the elemental particles you get from attacking is enough for those 4 second downtime. Rosaria has it even easier since her skill has a lower cooldown, and Xiangling already has no trouble with CP uptime. To say that “uptime is about half” suggests you have never used Crescent Pike before.

Also, I’ve already shown how even if the target is infused with Cryo, the Dragonspine proc will not outdamage the Pike. During the 10 second cooldown for Dragonspine proc, Crescent Pike will do over twice that damage. Even if Dragonspine instantly procs again on the 10th second, Crescent Pike still outdamages the DSS.

Also, if you want to talk about superconduct, there’s nothing stopping you from using superconduct with Crescent Pike either.

I decided to watch the video you mentioned after typing the above statements, and I think it’s such a misleading video. That person calculated the damage for a SINGLE attack rotation, which I mentioned takes only 3 seconds to do. However, to actually compare the Dragonspine to the Crescent Pike, you need to compare the damage both of them do over the course of 10 seconds, where Dragonspine fails terribly at. The person even says “The Dragonspine Spear frontloads a lot of it’s damage”. Nowhere does he say “The Dragonspine Spear is better than Crescent Pike”. If I’m using a character for DPS, I expect them to fight longer than 3 seconds.

I would still probably use Deathmatch over this on Rosaria, as it looks aesthetically better and the crit rate would allow for a crit helm, making for more consistent crits. The only way i’d use this or CP over Deathmatch was if I had perfect sub stat artifacts that gave me the Crit rate and Crit damage to even match Deathmatch + Helm (which is asking for a lot since Deathmatch crit rate is higher than lvl 20 Artifact main stat). Also Deathmatch offers Atk% on top of the crit rate, which at r5 vs 2+ enemies is nearly a 4* artifacts works and vs 1 enemy is more than a 5* artifacts worth. So… its a shit load of stats. Of course that’s r5, r1/2 is still pretty good.

Yes while Rosaria has very high normal/charge attacks, if I don’t consistently crit compared to Deathmach then I’m just losing damage. Imagine the difference between Ganyu charged shots critting and not critting, pretty huge drop in damage.

Deathmatch = Crit rate + Atk% + Crit Dmg Helm = More consistent damage
    CP/DSS = Phys Dmg + Proc Phys Dmg – Crit rate/Dmg = Less consistent crits/weaker crits

So, theres so much to unpack with this.
I dont know why people have randomly decided to consider crit rate as the be-all-end-all stat.
But physical damage when applied correctly (for example, superconduct maintained) is lightyears ahead of raw ATK% and crit rate. So comparing deathmatch is a bad joke.
      1) Both deathmatch and DSS are low end base atk. So Deathmatch’s ATK% from passive stat is growth from a low modifier, and if you are committing circlet to crit rate/dmg, you have a large gap to overcome, due to that base atk difference.

      2) 69% Phys DMG is LIGHTYEARS ahead of crit dmg. Because that is also far greater in comparison to any circlet stat built from it.
Both Crit DMG and Phys DMG (essentially DMG%) are additive multipliers of the base atk. Meaning they will impact the damage in the same way. The difference here, is that Deathmatch NEEDS to crit, just to match up to DSS’s potential damage pool, due to the fact that Deathmatch has no domestic stat, that compares to 69% DMG. So calling Deathmatch “more consistent damage” makes no sense. Since, crit rate comparitively is governed under RNG unless you have higher than 99% crit rate. 100% is the only possible amount that removes that luck, so you cannot argue that it is more consistent.
When both weapons are compared under the SAME experiment of stat sheet. DSS is far ahead.
You have to compare a 50% cdmg base, vs a weapon that also has 50% cdmg base, AND 69% phys dmg multiplier.
The only thing that changes is the frequency you will crit.
RNG from deathmatch is only good if the cdmg is above 69% and even then, would also be reliant that DSS never crits. which is an absurd argument to make, for you to conclude that deathmatch is “more consistent damage”.
DSS is greater damage from the start, and when they crit, is still greater damage.
Deathmatch’s only possibility, is critting more often.
Therefore, DSS is more consistent damage, because it doesn’t depend on crit, but still benefits from it

      3) You are ignoring the procc damage, which scales off atk, where deathmatch doesn’t have any.
high end CP proccs for about 4k per hit. and proccs multiple times on multiple hits.
Since Rosaria has TWO multi hit attacks in her normal combo, this effect will procc over 5 times, grossing about 20k damage on its own, in a single normal attack string. Again, not reliant on crit. And Rosaria cooldown is 6 seconds, which generates particles, so this effect is maintained 100% of the time, so long as you are using your elemental skill when its off cooldown.
That is a LOT of room for Deathmatch to compensate on, that “crits more frequently” cannot achieve on its own. So yet again, where does this idea of “more consistent damage” come from?

DSS and CP are domestically generating new ways to generate DPS, where as Deathmatch is not! It is simply enhancing the likelihood of a DPS method that exists with both occurring more often
Deathmatch is the better option if you only care about elemental damage
DSS/CP is easily the better option if you focus on physical damage, which it specializes in

Considering that Rosaria won’t stay in play for more than 4 seconds, most of it just being her using her skills, Dragonspine spear probably is better for her. I do think it may be better to just get her some weapon with a crit rate substat instead because of her A4 being able to share crit, but then there is the possibility of a crit fallout for having built in too much of it. I would be doing Q, E, and then auto attacking until the cryo energy from the E reaches Rosaria, then switch to another character; the Q and E taking priority over basic attacks is to ensure the enemy is affected by cryo for maximum icicle damage.

Given that we just had 3 polearm users, and none of them having any x4 hits at all, they’re clearly trying to build attack sequences with the crescent pike in mind. Also, there’s a high probability that the MV of a character is better or worse than it may seem when played, and we all know that there’s no way mihoyo will show the attack style with the best MV. It can probably be calculated with the data on this site, but I would have my doubts, since we find out that zhongli had really high MV with the crescent pike, better than razor’s.

    • Rosaria Simp on 3 March 2021 at 11:02 am
    • Reply

Crescent Pike is still better. The total MV for Dragonspine spear after 3 combos (about 10s) is lower than that of Crescent Pike at 1465.25. Crescent Pike would do 1685.25 total MV in the same time frame. That’s a whole 220 MV lower than Crescent pike. Not only does this spear fuck her normal combo string, it fucks over her damage on her abilities due to the low base atk.

So no, Dragonspine spear isn’t better than Crescent for a Phys Rosaria build.

    Avoid like the plague

      • Reply

I don’t think that is a fair comparison. We have to remember why Cresent Pike is so good on 4* spear users and that is they have low atk scaling but a lot of multihits. The issue using this concept with Rosaria is she has no low atk scaling multhihits. All of Rosaria’s talents at level 10 exceed the r5 crescent spike effect damage at 40% meaning Rosaria will do more damage off her actual attack then the weapons effect. Compare this to Xiangling who at level 10 only has 10% more scaling then r5 Crescent pike you can see why Crescent pike is so good for phys Xiangling.

Now look at Rosaria, who’s two multihits both have at least 20% more scaling than r5 Crescent pike while also having much higher atk scaling on all her autoattacks and has a slower AA string in general. With all these things in mind, it’s highly possible that a weapon with nearly double the amount of phys damage buff with an effect that drops an AOE attack that does massive more damage against an enemy suffering cryo damage every 10secs while also having a skill to apply cryo every 6 secs. It’s prudent to not simply throw out Dragonspine while making assumptions of both weapons performance on data from Xiangling, a character that heavily favors Crescent pike thanks to how her attacks convert atk into damage.

I frame counted and got the MV/s from Rosaria’s leaked moveset, it’s not based on Xiangling or Zhongli at all. The fact that Dragonspine spear may not crit on the icicle drop hurts it a lot. You can bandaid it with Blizzard Strayer’s crit stacking but unless you potentially overcap on crit then you’re not gonna get a crit icicle drop every time whereas with Pike you know it’s going to proc everytime and every hit will have a chance to crit. If you do proc it every time you have to make sure you drop the icicle every 10s but unless you’re a robot you’re not gonna be 100% on the cooldown. Let’s not forget that Crescent Pike scales off weapon atk speed which she gets at merely C1 and the fact that her cryo damage is not left to rot as a result of base atk.

Crescent Pike will probably be the better option for a main DPS Rosaria, and it has the benefit of being a great spear for other users, while Dragonspine has a cryo niche that only Rosaria fits so far.

Dragonspine would be better since Rosaria has ATK% increase during her ascensions, up to 24% on lvl 90. It is true that Dragonspine Spear’s base ATK is lower than Crescent Pike, but the Physical DMG% is twice the amount of Crescent Pike’s.

So no, you will not get a low normal ATK character if you equip this polearm to Rosaria.
