Bane of All Evil
Xiao dons the Yaksha Mask that set gods and demons trembling millennia ago.
Yaksha's Mask
• Greatly increases Xiao's jumping ability.
• Increases his attack AoE and attack DMG.
• Converts attack DMG into Anemo DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion.
In this state, Xiao will continuously lose HP.
The effects of this skill end when Xiao leaves the field.
Donning the Mask of the Yaksha, Xiao takes the terrifying, demon-conquering form of the Vigilant Yaksha. But this great power has also brought him great suffering. Some call him "The Bane of All Evil."

Character Details
Xiao may have the appearance of a young man, but his true age is something over two thousand years.

Fortunately, people do not tend to underestimate him on the basis of his appearance — one only needs to spend a short time with Xiao to clarify that he is not someone to be trifled with.

Xiao is a man of few words. He is highly dangerous, and has the most piercing gaze you've ever seen.

He enjoys a formidable reputation and high level of seniority among the adepti, but is relatively unknown in the mortal realm.

This is inevitable. Xiao is not one of those popular deities to whom people pray for wealth and protection, nor is he a mystical sage of Jueyun Karst to whom pilgrims flock in search of divine wisdom.

No... If any mortal witnesses Xiao unleashing his true power, it is certain to be under the direst of circumstances — and they will be extremely lucky if they survive the ordeal.

This is not because Xiao seeks to harm people. Rather, since Xiao wages a constant war against dark forces powerful enough to devour Liyue in its entirety, any bystanders who witness him in the heat of battle are likely to end up as collateral damage.

Not that this is a secret worth going around silencing witnesses for.
Character Story 1
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 2
What exactly is Xiao wrestling with?

The tactful answer would be old grudges, unfulfilled dreams, the lamentations of the vanquished...

The unmitigated truth is that Xiao fights against the remnants of the defeated gods from the Archon War, which took place prior to the rise of The Seven.

Morax defeated those gods and buried their remains beneath the rocks of the earth.

However, gods are immortal. Their consciousness may diminish, but their power and hatred will always remain and spread like poison, relentlessly stirring up chaos for the world and its inhabitants.

Liyue's rulers, who are aware of the truth regarding Xiao, refer to him in his millennia-long experience as the "Bane of All Evil."

The war he fights can never be won, and will never come to an end.

It is also an invisible war that no-one will ever witness or thank him for.
Character Story 2
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 3
Xiao is not this yaksha's true name, but a name given to him in the interests of his own protection.

Back in a younger, more naive time, a god had gotten a hold of Xiao's weakness and forced him to serve as their bloodhound, in which capacity he was forced to perform cruel and violent acts.

Many died at his hand, many hopes were crushed, and he was even forced into devouring his victims' dreams. As much as it pained him to do this, he was helpless to resist.

Finally, on the battlefield of the Archon War, Morax, the Geo Archon, had a fateful encounter with the yaksha's master.

The current state of the world has already revealed the results of that battle.

Rex Lapis liberated the yaksha and gave him the name "Xiao."

"In the fables of another world, the name Xiao is that of a spirit who encountered great suffering and hardship. He endured much suffering, as you have. Use this name from now on."
Character Story 3
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 4
To repay his debt of gratitude to the Geo Archon, Xiao shouldered the burden of protecting Liyue in the millennia that followed.

His past of service under the evil god had rid Xiao of his innocence and gentleness. All that remained within him was the means to kill and the weight of his sins.

The only way he could be of service to mortals was in doing battle.

But what could people do for him in return?

No ordinary person would ever stop to ask such a question. The sight of Xiao, even far off in the distance, was intimidating enough to send people instantly running for their lives.

That said... if ever someone did want to show some appreciation for Xiao, there is perhaps one thing they could try.

There is a certain secret agent of the Qixing who is tasked with supporting Xiao in subduing demons. That secret agent runs a front organization called the Wangshu Inn.

Occasionally, Xiao stops by the inn for a bowl of Almond Tofu, and if you could see the look on his face when he eats it... there's no mistaking it — he clearly loves the stuff.

Nonetheless, it is not the sweet taste that Xiao hankers after. It's the texture he finds irresistible — apparently, it's very similar to that of the dreams he used to devour.
Character Story 4
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 5
What exactly is Xiao wrestling with?

To those in Liyue's corridors of power, Xiao's battle is against the evil manifestations produced by the remnants of defeated gods.

However, if you asked Xiao the same question, he may well give you an entirely different answer.

Xiao was once enslaved by an evil god and suffered immensely under his rule until finally regaining his freedom at Rex Lapis' hand.

Xiao's powers were highly regarded by the adepti and he seemed to vanquish all manner of evil demons with consummate ease.

But the evil gods also held immense power, and their lust for revenge ran deeper than mere mortals could ever contemplate. Xiao relentlessly slaughtered the endless, impure manifestations of their vengeful souls, but in doing so, he caused them to fracture. Eventually, these fragments of their hatred were able to taint Xiao's own soul.

The only way to eradicate such hatred is to accept the karmic debt it brings. The magnitude of the bad karma Xiao has accumulated over the years is enough to consume flesh, bone, and soul alike.

And yet, Xiao does not feel any hatred. Having lived for over two thousand years, no single karmic debt constitutes anything more than a fleeting memory.

No grudge can last a thousand years, nor is any debt so great that it cannot be paid off in this time.

Xiao has spent many long years alone.

But his battles have never been in vain.

Because ultimately, the one with whom Xiao wrestles is himself.

What does Xiao fight against?

The Traveler understands very well that Xiao fights against the darkness that threatens Liyue. He fights to defends Liyue.

But who will defend him?

There was once when most of Xiao's strength was spent fighting from dusk till dawn, with him emerging victorious by a mere hair.

The reeds in the fields had been sliced to ribbons in the fierce fighting. Plucking his spear from where it had been planted in the ground, Xiao began the trek home.

Well, one says "home" — yet, where did Xiao have to return to? He was merely leaving the battlefield.

Long exhausted, Xiao felt the divine hatred that tainted his body take effect.

Limitless hate flooded his senses, and he fell to the ground in agony.

But it was also at that moment that the pain vanished without warning.

This was not by Xiao's own strength, for he had been rescued by the sound of a flute.

The clear, lovely sound of the flute came over the mountains and rivers, carried on the wind to where he lay.

And clear it continued to ring till the first light of dawn brought with it the startled flight of distant birds.

It protected Xiao, massaging his wild senses, and giving him a moment's peace.

Who was playing this music? Xiao was curious but did not pursue the matter. For he already had something approaching an answer.

The last person who could help him was one of The Seven themselves. So this person, too, must be—
Ode to Windborne Wraith
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 4
A scholar of the Sumeru Academia once did folklore studies in Liyue, the result of which was a book called "Tour of the Land of Liyue," with separate editions being available in Sumeru and Liyue.

"Hidden Diamond and Cloudy Moon: Wonders and Folklores of Liyue" is the version available in Liyue, and has had many mystical and magical portions removed.

The "Ode to Winborne Wraith" is one of the mystical chapters that remain recorded within the complete version at the Academia.

The document mentions that though the yaksha were mighty and upright among the adepti, they were bound by their own karma to suffer great horrors and tribulations. As such, they wandered the land in a state of unending suffering.

The chapter lists many methods of comforting the yaksha, such as food offerings, holy chants, and the like. These would appease the yaksha and help them to continue defending the peace.

As noble warriors among adepti, the yaksha would often descend upon the battlefield in person. However, as conflicts grew over the millennia, they have almost been wiped out. Today, large statues of the yaksha subduing demons remain within Liyue's borders, but they have had their features destroyed.

By the by, the language used in that text was so meandering, and its contents so dense, that it sold far fewer copies than the Teyvat Travel Guide and the international cultural summaries written by El Musk.
Vision
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 6
All adepti are known as the "mighty and illuminated" adepti, and this "illumination" refers to the light of a third "eye" that they possess: a Vision.

But do adepti receive their Visions as a form of acknowledgment from Celestia, like humans do?

Xiao no longer remembers the moment he received his Vision. To humans, this would be an unforgettable event. But for him, this was just the beginning of his endless battle.

The thing that Xiao truly cannot forget is something different.

There are a great many human festivals, and few remember the stories behind them.

The greater part of these days coincide with occasions where man-eating monsters were defeated by the adepti host. People imitated their deeds and staged exorcism rituals to remember their ancient heroism, with these practices eventually evolving into celebratory festivals.

The hatred and residual might of many of the gods defeated by Morax throughout Liyue will sometimes erupt with abnormal force amid their half-awake, half-dreaming state. Among them, the eruption that takes place during the Lantern Rite is the most extreme in scale.

Xiao has his mission to perform the time-honored "Nuo Dance of Evil Conquering," and so he fights night and day during the Lantern Rite. Thus, he has come to hate it.

Now, Xiao did not consider battle dangerous. It was due to his hard work that Liyue was kept safe. People lit their lanterns, and the blessed lights shone across the night sky and the nearshore.

At that moment, another special feeling blossomed in Xiao's heart. Loneliness? Peace? Or was it his fears for the future? The young-seeming adeptus searched his heart, only to find no answers.

His burst plunge is the best, not only because it’s aoe but because it could break shields or something that requires a heavy hit like a claymore. for those who didn’t pull for him is one of your biggest mistake especially if your f2p. gonna admit it he’s way more better than hutao and ganyu!. I think hutao and ganyu has some heavy draw backs than xiao. xiao only lose hp and you only need a decent healer. but hutao is risky, you need to adjust your hp in order to deal massive dmg, her charge attack is good but cost heavy stamina like keqing with another downsides like pulling you back, for hutao she zooms through the enemy really far which could be weird sometimes in combat. ganyu require some good aim because she uses arrow that still travel, you also need to adjust her position in order to have a good combat capability. overall xiao the best ngl!

Xiao is nowhere near the same level as Hu Tao and Ganyu. Stop simping. He has a bad element and is the most vulnerable out of the three to be powercreeped hard. Anemo DPS? No other role than hard carry DPS? LOL. This won’t age well at all. Ganyu can at least still be an effective S-tier support and is currently dealing obscene amounts of damage as a main DPS. Hu Tao has an amazing element (Pyro) and has one of the highest damage ceilings in the game. Xiao is good at the moment, but he is not on the same level as Hu Tao and Ganyu nor does he have the same longevity in terms of being a ‘meta’ pick. With that said, it is more of a testament to how overtuned and broken Hu Tao and Ganyu are, rather than Xiao simply being outclassed. They made a mistake with Ganyu and Hu Tao.

Agreed, just want to add a couple of facts to your comment, Xiao’s numbers are actually overtuned to allow him to compete with other DPS units, I mean… he has the highest base attack and his multipliers are very big, to a point that if your substats for an ATK% goblet are just a bit better than Anemo%, you can choose the former because it’ll give you more damage. I also want to note that C6 Xiao is better than C6 Hu Tao and C6 Ganyu, even though that only matters for whales and any constellation below 6 means Hu Tao and Ganyu > Xiao.

I’m not the biggest fan of Hu Tao but I’d choose Ganyu over Xiao any day.

Skipped xiao for both hutao and ganyu, best decision i ever made and not even a single regret. Imagine needed your ulti everytime to make yourself viable to make high damage and on top of that his energy recharge management is not even decent for that purpose, plus you need his cons to overcome that matter so f2p much huh? To add more you will lose his ultimate if you switch character that make himself a selfish dps, which is worst if you want to switch out to other chars to use their utility as support or sub dps. Ganyu and hu tao have both have the best element in the moment to break their damage scaling by reaction and can be viable to become a sub dps since their mechanic is not selfish, xiao meanwhile can’t even proc anything since he is anemo so there is nothing much can do to increase his damage scaling

Xiao is definitely the best dps. Ganyu and Who Tao mains above pointed out a few things that aren’t entirely true and any Ganyu / Hu Tao main YT channel will tell you. Xiao has bad / weak element ? Anemo is the main reason why he is the best dps, he can fight any opponent in the entire game without supporting himself with another element. Let’s fight pyro regisvine with Hu Tao or cryo abbysal mage with Ganyu and see who deals more damage compared to Xiao. To deal high damage using Hu Tao, you need cryo, so you also need hydro (and she can’t destroy shields :/ ). Ganyu doesn’t need that much, but she needs melt, so pyro for sure and with only one good 4 part artifact, you also need cryo (for resonance I guess) and with cryo comes hydro, so I was wrong xD she needs a lot. Xiao just needs a good healer, but we all know Bennet is on every team. He doesn’t need batteries because when he runs out of Ult, you have almost full energy and some E to use (146.5% ER here). As above, plunge burst can destroy shields and has a huge aoe that only multiplies damage and ER. CR% as an ascension bonus is very good, allowing you to go full CD% circlet. Sure, you can deal 600K damage with Hu Tao Ult (you have to put hydro/cryo/freeze on all enemies first), then it’s useless, but when Xiao jumps 13+ times (depending on low/high plunge, when 13+ is for high plunge) it deals 40/60K dmg each time (+5% every 3sec to max 25%) and puts elements on all enemies in aoe, kills them and burst is ready to use again. The truth is, we all have our mains and love them for their character/playstyle/dmg, and who am I to say that this or that character is better than others. I’m not God who knows everything and your Hu Tao or Ganyu might be better than my Xiao 🙂

I’m gonna admit it, the best dps character in the game number 1!. he only needs a good healer like bennett, qiqi, or even barbara!. as an f2p he is super good you only need to grind artifacts, also any 4 star weapon with decent main stat and substat like favonius lance would be very good to him. currently using favonius lance and is super duper good with the fast burst rotation along to recover his hp.

There are 2 types of bursts, 1 being a big damage dealer burst and the other being many damage dealers in a ultimate stage until it ends. Xiao’s ult does a big damage overall before his ultimate ends, which can equal to a big dmg dealer. So stop arguing that Hu Tao/any other big damage burst character is “better than Xiao” before knowing.

      For those who don’t know:

Xiao’s VA obviously has great skills, she legit sounds like a young guy and that is hard to do even if you have been doing voices for years. Put the blame on the director, as even if the VA is amazing but the direction is bad, then it would always turn bad. Look at all those shitty knock off animated films that have amazing voice actors. Most of them are crap because of the director’s poor planning (Saberspark covers a lot of these in his videos). I hope nobody here is dumb enough to harass the VA just for this.

And I dunno if this is an unpopular opinion but Xiao being seen as Kirito is a massive downside. Kirito really is just a crappy written character, but if you like the anime then good for you I guess. The VA is great tho, just not Kirito the harem Mary Sue lmao

Homa, PJWS sucks right now and if you grind artifacts you can reach 70%-80% crit and >210% cdmg with Homa wearing a crit circlet.
It’s just way easier to slap on a crit circlet with around 12-15% cdmg than pray to get godly crit rolls on artifacts to reach a mediocre 180-190% cdmg while having 70-80% crit.
Excluding Xiao’s ascension bonus, Homa + crit circlet is 31.1 crit + (66.2+12-15%) cdmg while PJWS is like (22.2+3.5-8%) crit + 62.2% cdmg.
Realistically getting crit rolls on cdmg circlets takes around 2000-3000 resin based on my runs and that’s a lot of resin just to keep up with Homa.
PJWS is just aesthetics while Homa lets you hit harder.

TLDR : Homa is artifact efficient, let’s you optimize Xiao better than PJWS and gives you higher DPS considering comparable artifact quality.
      TLDR TLDR : RIP PJWS.

lol i can keep my elemental burst up all the time with two seconds to use the two E’s. You do know Hutao’s elemental skill is so much worse because you cant do shit about the long cooldown? Did i mention the fact that my Bennett is Lv 40?

Hutao’s cooldown is long AF and you cant do shit about it, and who told you it’s normals attacks? 12k per second ONLY during elemental skill, Xiao’s burst has 2 seconds down time 🙂

Yes, Xiao is still better than Hu Tao 100%, hope that copium tastes good KEKW,
There will always be a better character and Xiao will eventually get overshadowed, it’s a gacha game.
But who cares anyways, you can clear this game with any character, just play who you like.

Oh yes, I can taste the blood, sweat, tears and salt from the Xiao simps in this thread. Hu Tao’s coming to steal this edgelord yaksha’s mask and yeet him off of a cliff to be the true yaksha. Time for Xiao to be shoved down the drain coz the best DPS polearm is almost here. Who Tao ? Nah, its Who Xiao ?
