Bane of All Evil
Xiao dons the Yaksha Mask that set gods and demons trembling millennia ago.
Yaksha's Mask
• Greatly increases Xiao's jumping ability.
• Increases his attack AoE and attack DMG.
• Converts attack DMG into Anemo DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion.
In this state, Xiao will continuously lose HP.
The effects of this skill end when Xiao leaves the field.
Donning the Mask of the Yaksha, Xiao takes the terrifying, demon-conquering form of the Vigilant Yaksha. But this great power has also brought him great suffering. Some call him "The Bane of All Evil."

Character Details
Xiao may have the appearance of a young man, but his true age is something over two thousand years.

Fortunately, people do not tend to underestimate him on the basis of his appearance — one only needs to spend a short time with Xiao to clarify that he is not someone to be trifled with.

Xiao is a man of few words. He is highly dangerous, and has the most piercing gaze you've ever seen.

He enjoys a formidable reputation and high level of seniority among the adepti, but is relatively unknown in the mortal realm.

This is inevitable. Xiao is not one of those popular deities to whom people pray for wealth and protection, nor is he a mystical sage of Jueyun Karst to whom pilgrims flock in search of divine wisdom.

No... If any mortal witnesses Xiao unleashing his true power, it is certain to be under the direst of circumstances — and they will be extremely lucky if they survive the ordeal.

This is not because Xiao seeks to harm people. Rather, since Xiao wages a constant war against dark forces powerful enough to devour Liyue in its entirety, any bystanders who witness him in the heat of battle are likely to end up as collateral damage.

Not that this is a secret worth going around silencing witnesses for.
Character Story 1
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 2
What exactly is Xiao wrestling with?

The tactful answer would be old grudges, unfulfilled dreams, the lamentations of the vanquished...

The unmitigated truth is that Xiao fights against the remnants of the defeated gods from the Archon War, which took place prior to the rise of The Seven.

Morax defeated those gods and buried their remains beneath the rocks of the earth.

However, gods are immortal. Their consciousness may diminish, but their power and hatred will always remain and spread like poison, relentlessly stirring up chaos for the world and its inhabitants.

Liyue's rulers, who are aware of the truth regarding Xiao, refer to him in his millennia-long experience as the "Bane of All Evil."

The war he fights can never be won, and will never come to an end.

It is also an invisible war that no one will ever witness or thank him for.
Character Story 2
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 3
Xiao is not this yaksha's true name, but a name given to him in the interests of his own protection.

Back in a younger, more naive time, a god had gotten a hold of Xiao's weakness and forced him to serve as their bloodhound, in which capacity he was forced to perform cruel and violent acts.

Many died at his hand, many hopes were crushed, and he was even forced into devouring his victims' dreams. As much as it pained him to do this, he was helpless to resist.

Finally, on the battlefield of the Archon War, Morax, the Geo Archon, had a fateful encounter with the yaksha's master.

The current state of the world has already revealed the results of that battle.

Rex Lapis liberated the yaksha and gave him the name "Xiao."

"In the fables of another land, the name Xiao is that of a spirit who encountered great suffering and hardship. He endured much suffering, as you have. Use this name from now on."
Character Story 3
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 4
To repay his debt of gratitude to the Geo Archon, Xiao shouldered the burden of protecting Liyue in the millennia that followed.

His past of service under the evil god had rid Xiao of his innocence and gentleness. All that remained within him was the means to kill and the weight of his sins.

The only way he could be of service to mortals was in doing battle.

But what could people do for him in return?

No ordinary person would ever stop to ask such a question. The sight of Xiao, even far off in the distance, was intimidating enough to send people instantly running for their lives.

That said... if ever someone did want to show some appreciation for Xiao, there is perhaps one thing they could try.

There is a certain secret agent of the Qixing who is tasked with supporting Xiao in subduing demons. That secret agent runs a front organization called the Wangshu Inn.

Occasionally, Xiao stops by the inn for a bowl of Almond Tofu, and if you could see the look on his face when he eats it... there's no mistaking it — he clearly loves the stuff.

Nonetheless, it is not the sweet taste that Xiao hankers after. It's the texture he finds irresistible — apparently, it's very similar to that of the dreams he used to devour.
Character Story 4
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 5
What exactly is Xiao wrestling with?

To those in Liyue's corridors of power, Xiao's battle is against the evil manifestations produced by the remnants of defeated gods.

However, if you asked Xiao the same question, he may well give you an entirely different answer.

Xiao was once enslaved by an evil god and suffered immensely under their rule until finally regaining his freedom thanks to Rex Lapis.

Xiao's powers were highly regarded by the adepti and he seemed to vanquish all manner of evil demons with consummate ease.

But the evil gods also held immense power, and their lust for revenge ran deeper than mere mortals could ever contemplate. Xiao relentlessly slaughtered the endless, impure manifestations of their vengeful souls, but in doing so, he caused them to fracture. Eventually, these fragments of their hatred were able to taint Xiao's own soul.

The only way to eradicate such hatred is to accept the karmic debt it brings. The magnitude of the bad karma Xiao has accumulated over the years is enough to consume flesh, bone, and soul alike.

And yet, Xiao does not feel any hatred. Having lived for over two thousand years, no single karmic debt constitutes anything more than a fleeting memory.

No grudge can last a thousand years, nor is any debt so great that it cannot be paid off in this time.

Xiao has spent many long years alone.

But his battles have never been in vain.

Because ultimately, the one with whom Xiao wrestles is himself.
Character Story 5

What does Xiao fight against?

The Traveler understands very well that Xiao fights against the darkness that threatens Liyue. He fights to defend Liyue.

But who will defend him?

There was once when most of Xiao's strength was spent fighting from dusk till dawn, with him emerging victorious by a mere hair.

The reeds in the fields had been sliced to ribbons in the fierce fighting. Plucking his spear from where it had been planted in the ground, Xiao began the trek home.

Well, one says "home" — yet, where did Xiao have to return to? He was merely leaving the battlefield.

Long exhausted, Xiao felt the divine hatred that tainted his body take effect.

Limitless hate flooded his senses, and he fell to the ground in agony.

But it was also at that moment that the pain vanished without warning.

This was not by Xiao's own strength, for he had been rescued by the sound of a flute.

The clear, lovely sound of the flute came over the mountains and rivers, carried on the wind to where he lay.

And clear it continued to ring till the first light of dawn brought with it the startled flight of distant birds.

It protected Xiao, massaging his wild senses, and giving him a moment's peace.

Who was playing this music? Xiao was curious but did not pursue the matter. For he already had something approaching an answer.

The last person who could help him was one of The Seven themselves. So this person, too, must be—
Ode to Windborne Wraith
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 4
A scholar of the Sumeru Academia once did folklore studies in Liyue, the result of which was a book called "Tour of the Land of Liyue," with separate editions being available in Sumeru and Liyue.

"Hidden Diamond and Cloudy Moon: Wonders and Folklores of Liyue" is the version available in Liyue, and has had many mystical and magical portions removed.

The "Ode to Windborne Wraith" is one of the mystical chapters that remain recorded within the complete version at the Academia.

The document mentions that though the yaksha were mighty and upright among the adepti, they were bound by their own karma to suffer great horrors and tribulations. As such, they wandered the land in a state of unending suffering.

The chapter lists many methods of comforting the yaksha, such as food offerings, holy chants, and the like. These would appease the yaksha and help them to continue defending the peace.

As noble warriors among adepti, the yaksha would often descend upon the battlefield in person. However, as conflicts grew over the millennia, they have almost been wiped out. Today, large statues of the yaksha subduing demons remain within Liyue's borders, but they have had their features destroyed.

By the by, the language used in that text was so meandering, and its contents so dense, that it sold far fewer copies than the Teyvat Travel Guide and the international cultural summaries written by El Musk.
Vision
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 6
All adepti are known as the "mighty and illuminated" adepti, and this "illumination" refers to the light of a third "eye" that they possess: a Vision.

But do adepti receive their Visions as a form of acknowledgment from Celestia, like humans do?

Xiao no longer remembers the moment he received his Vision. To humans, this would be an unforgettable event. But for him, this was just the beginning of his endless battle.

The thing that Xiao truly cannot forget is something different.

There are a great many human festivals, and few remember the stories behind them.

The greater part of these days coincide with occasions where man-eating monsters were defeated by the adepti host. People imitated their deeds and staged exorcism rituals to remember their ancient heroism, with these practices eventually evolving into celebratory festivals.

The hatred and residual might of many of the gods defeated by Morax throughout Liyue will sometimes erupt with abnormal force amid their half-awake, half-dreaming state. Among them, the eruption that takes place during the Lantern Rite is the most extreme in scale.

Xiao has his mission to perform the time-honored "Nuo Dance of Evil Conquering," and so he fights night and day during the Lantern Rite. Thus, he has come to hate it.

Now, Xiao did not consider battle dangerous. It was due to his hard work that Liyue was kept safe. People lit their lanterns, and the blessed lights shone across the night sky and the nearshore.

At that moment, another special feeling blossomed in Xiao's heart. Loneliness? Peace? Or was it his fears for the future? The young-seeming adeptus searched his heart, only to find no answers.

What makes Xiao worth pull is not his power level (he never was a top dps) but the matter he has the best personality and very fun gameplay.

His personality is kinda grumpy and irritatingly edgy.

While his gameplay is just repetitive jumping, get energy, then repetitive jumping again. Add that to the fact that he have little things to experiment on.

Xiao is in no way a bad character and is still a great carry for most endgame content but the part about him being powercrept and falling behind is true and the sooner Xiao mains can accept it the better. There’s simply a lot of better DPS characters than him with better elements, reactions and resonances (Ganyu, Hu Tao, Eula, Raiden, Ayaka, Itto, Xiangling). It’s like the time when Diluc was heralded as the top DPS during release but his time has long gone.

If you like Xiao then go for him. No need to stress about his standing in the meta. The game gets more fun if you pull for the characters you like, not what you “need”

Plunge attacks are broken. They have insane scaling, and they deal damage in AoE fashion. Keyword, AoE. Xiao is the only character in the game that abuses the hell out of this mechanic, and so he’ll always be powerful.

I’m not saying he’s the strongest. No character will ever be the strongest. Because abyss changes with each cycle. Currently, because of the dogs in Floor 12 that love to disappear and jump all over the place, the abyss favors teams that can deal out nuke damage in a short window rather than sustained DPS. But that will change.

As for his artifacts, folks act like he’s running 2 piece exile and 2 piece wanderer’s. Any combination of 2 Piece VV, 2 Piece Shimenawa, and 2 Piece Glad will serve you just fine. It’s not like husk for Itto, crimson which for Diluc, or EoSF for burst supports, no, and it would certainly be nice for Xiao to have a set tailored for him, but he has perfectly serviceable artifacts.

The only serious gripe I have with Xiao is that his 4 star polearms are very lacking (besides Deathmatch), and as a F2P your best option is blackcliff pole, a good weapon, but locked behind star glitter.

If you want Xiao, get him. You won’t regret it, and anyone who says you will doesn’t play him.

I did a one pull as a “whatever moment”, got Xiao, and got kinda annoyed since the next banner has the 2 characters I want the most. But I thought I might as well give him a try and he really is much better than people told me he was. I have an SoH C1 Hu Tao and he is obviously weaker than THAT but I don’t really feel like I make a HUGE downgrade when I swap them as people said.
I think there wil eventually be a plunge attack artifact set and that will buff him a lot but we don’t know when will that happen.

-I wish he would get better stuff. The only synergize he really has is Zhongli, but due to the fact he is a limited 5* he is inaccessible to some players. No new set, no new supports, even Homa beats Jade Spear which is suppost to be his signiture, and the Calamity Queller is almost as good as the Jade Spear, Jade Spear only beats by an unnoticeably less amout DMG. Since Jade Spear is made for him, other weapons shouldn’t be able to beat it or do only a little less DMG.
-I have an idea for him:
Dedicated support 4* (Like an Anemo Gorou)
New signiture 5* weapon (Most likely will not happen, but Homa will do for now)
    Defently a new artifact set
2pc- Increases plunge DMG by 20%
4pc- Using an elemental skill or burst, the character with the equiped set will gain an 7% elemental DMG bonus to their corresponding element, max 3 stacks(7%/14%/21% elemental DMG). Additionally when 3 stacks are equiped, increases ATK by 15%. Can only occur every 20 seconds, all stacks are dependent and last for 15 seconds, effect automatically ends when character is swaped/burst ends/fallen.
-Yes I took inspo from the Crimson set, Husk set and Noblise.
-Might sound like ‘cOpiUm’ but I really want him to do better; His kit has so much potential that was wasted, he was forgotten and fell at the bottom tier list like a pebble.
Other than that I don’t have much to say, tell me if you agree : )

Rolled for this dude because I have R3 Jade spear (drip over meta lul), got really lucky and got C1 in like 88 pulls but he’s so underwhelming even with my C4 Jean + 2 Geo compared to my C3 Raiden and C3 Eula (yeah no shit ofc it’s better it’s high cons dumbass). But here’s the catch I’m thinking of getting him to C3 but it looks like that doesn’t improve him greatly compared to other hypercarries in my account. At least I have variety of DPS now (copium).
He’s still viable and able to clear the abyss but in my experience his AOE plunge DPS that every spreadsheet theory crafters praise him for is so overrated and should not be taken seriously. The game is far removed from treasure hoarders, fatui and hilichurl floors that he excels at in high abyss floors so he’s not valuable to anyone’s account anymore.
Easy skip if you’re low spender or f2p, copium DPS for mid spenders (no wonder his usage rate is too low now he’s easily the first one you send on your bench). 5/10 solid bottom A tier unit.

“…So he’s not valuable to anyone’s account anymore.” Do you think people will care if you come with an argument saying shit like: “He wont improve your account.” Is the dumbest argument ever. If you seen people say they don’t like him because he’s powercrept because has no good supports and artifacts, and you know yourself you obviously pefer Meta, basing off what you said, then why pull for him and complain? That’s your problem don’t come here and start ranting saying he’s a 5/10 DPS. Thats 100% your fault. Also why do you think FTP’s or low spender would just give up on the characters they like, what Meta slaves say: “because blabla is not relevent in the new abyss because this character can beat it 3.2 seconds faster.” Ahh yes, because anyone would give up on pulling a character they prefarmed for so long because you can get 600 primogems 3.2 seconds faster and farming for a new character ot do so. No, dumbass, 600 PRIMOGEMS IS 600 PRIMOGEMS!

bro you’re coping so hard. there are people that can’t beat abyss with Xiao even after pre-farming artifacts. just accept it, Xiao is bottom tier DPS. this is not some lie, actual Xiao mains know this as a fact. The guy did compare him to Eula and Raiden but even Ganyu, Ayaka, Xiangling, Itto, Noelle, etc outdps him. In AoE, he’s just outscaled by venti and kazuha, and even sucrose. seriously, Xiao CAN’T beat any team that has those units when it comes to AoE. it’s fine to be powercrept, there’s still constellations to help. but Xiao does not gain any advantage with constellations. until you get C6 you’re playing the same trash dps. and if you do want to get C6, then you just wasted your time and money. it’s one of the most stupid C6 in the game. literally has no advantage in speedrun or oonga boonga damage.

It’s not just F2Ps that are complaining about him. Whales just don’t care as much and not vocal but they consider Xiao garbage tier. If Shintenzu wasn’t a Xiao simp, he would have stopped using Xiao. Go to his channel, he can’t even speedrun the abyss with a C6 Xiao. Imagine having a C6 unit with NO VALUE.

It’s just right to let people know the honest truth about a character. if they like him, they can wish. but dont expect him to be anything good. we are not against trash mobs anymore where this trash dps is “good”

Hard agree on this. And I’ll be the first one to fight Xiao doubters several patches ago when they say he’s weak yada yada. It’s painful to admit but he really is underwhelming nowadays. The Spiral Abyss is getting harder and harder and it is a fact that he is getting left behind. We really are in no way going back to hilichurl and treasure horder era in floor 12. No dedicated 4p and no dedicated support. He needs them now more than ever. But then again you will see bunch of insecure idiots in Xiaomains subreddit who are high on copium unironically believing he’s still top tier dps.

-Don’t worry about ER to much, pull out your Sucrose and stack ER with Fav Codex use her as a battery to use her elemental skill and swap. I recomond using a 4PC Emblem so you can recharge while still dealing some extra DMG, you can battery him w/ Kazuha but it will be ineffective.
-I also recommend Anemo traveler for C6 20% DEF shred. But if you have Crit problems you can use Geo traveler for there Crit bonus, I recommend Geo traveler more though, due to the caging they provide. Xiao has knockback problems and kicks enemies was to far in his burst.
-Try not to run Xiangling in a comp that doesn’t use elemental reactions to much.
-Bennet is good with Xiao, but you need to know that his ULT duration is shorter than Xiao’s burst. Xiao also like to move alot while fighting, causing him to leave the circle. Use Geo traveler to cage in enemies before using his bennets burst.

People need to stop saying “wanting Xiao to have a dedicated set and support is copuim.” There are people who genuinely want him to get a character that can synergize with him. It’s not that his scaling is letterally dogsh*t, it’s fine. Nobody can actually team up with him and Genshin is a team based game. Remeber when Noelle was letteral dogsh*t even at c6? Then she got Gorou to buff her and Redhorn, dedicated set made specifically for Geo defence scaling characters. Same exact thing with Albedo exept he got Spinabar Spindle instead. (If you were smart enough you could realize a pattern of characters being indirectly buffed by getting proper synergized supports and artifacts.) People need to learn what copuim is, because obviously you don’t know what copuim means if you think wanting a character that can support a character is copuim in a game that revolves around team. Maybe if he actually does have the proper equipment then you can say what you think about him and compare him to those that do, but all you can do now is be patient and wait. Mihoyo isn’t going to make an update everyday to please your self validation because you love to hear about a character in a game that you own that’s stronger than another.

His top 14 comp is just Sucrose, Xiangling and Bennett carrying him. Change him into something else and it could be better. His top 21 is his usual comp. Sadly, these are the only comps available for him as he has very little tools to play around with.

btw it’s against the electro doggos. No geo advantage here. That is also why Raiden killed that floor.

This post is weird cuz i literally beat it in 40sec with Raiden national and hutao vape. Both units at c0
Ayaka mains have a video of someone beating it in 20sec with c0 ayaka
Mono pyro hutao with bennet is somehow 2x stronger than vape hutao?? What??
I’m not even joking but if you put xiao with fav lance with just a zhongli to protect him in a 2 man tag team he will still clear faster than 189sec= almost 3 minutes.
There was literally a youtuber who posted videos about a solo c0 xiao doing it on every version update.
You have to be playing this game at tenten level bad to get these clear timings.

that is the aggregate for the entire floor part 1

for example top 3 Eula did it for 18+19+36 = 73 secs

Lol I thought it was obvious already but I guess it wasn’t for a few of guys out there. The time is the total run times for all floors they participated on, a total of 3 floors.

The codes at the end of each are their “Watch codes” for their Bilibili links. Just copy them and add them at the end of http://www.bilibili.com/video/-here-

Watched the ayaka video and the person seem to be taking pointless heal buffs.
So what is the requirement for these videos? You not allowed to take abyss buffs or something?
I’m not chinese so you have to lay out the ground rules for everyone instead of just spamming it on every page.

Nothing it obvious when it’s in different language and the rules/limitations of speedrun are not clear. A lot of things can fall under “low spender speedrun leaderboard”.

            • anon on 11 January 2022 at 11:30 am

I was referring to the fact that the secs does refer to a single floor only.
I thought that was obvious. No one questioned that even on other posts.
189 secs for a single floor is literally failing to get 3 stars, let alone speed run material.

I think something wrong with this…
On top 14 xiao doing ~46k plung dmg with bennet…, to do this you need extremely low stats like 1500 atk and 150 cr.dmg.
My xiao with 230 cr.dmg and 2000 atk doing ~80k every plunge with bennet.

There’s not the same investment on all this characters, did you even whatch this videos?

Is 50 crit rate 150 crit damage good for him? I have his Jade spear.

      • low on 8 January 2022 at 2:06 pm

since you have Jade Spear, that is really low. not to mention that he ascends with crit rate.
You should aim for cr/cd in between of 75/160 and 50/210 or higher if you still can.

You need 100 crit rate 500 crit dmg or else your dmg will be copium.

Jokes aside 150 crit dmg is pretty low, 200+ is better to hit bigger plunge dmg so get farming
