About Diona
Diona, from Springvale! Ah, I heard she mixes a great drink, so I came specifically to see her! I thought perhaps I could use her secrets in my cooking, and bring out more flavors. About Zhongli
I've come across a lot of fussy eaters, but Mr. Zhongli is very particular and has no problem getting straight to what he has to say. The first time I served him salt and pepper tofu, he took just one bite, and then proceeded to say: "It would be better to try sea salt extracted from the shallow seas of Guyun Stone Forest, because it would bring a fresh sense of depth to the tofu." I tried it and the taste was just so different! He's just amazing, don't you think!?

Chongyun? I always see him on his way to eat at Wanmin Restaurant with Xingqiu... Ah... or perhaps I should say I see him being dragged there by Xingqiu? Chongyun doesn't eat hot food. They're quite interesting, those two.

About Ganyu
Ganyu? Oh... Oh yeah! I remember her — vegetarian, right? She doesn't come to the Wanmin Restaurant very often — but when she does, she sits alone in the corner and eats her meal in total silence. Poor girl, she seems kinda lonely... I always give her an extra-large portion because I feel sorry for her. Funniest thing is, she eats every last bite, every time! I wouldn't have guessed she had such an appetite just by looking at her.

About Yaoyao
Hee-hee, I'm proud to call her a fellow chef! She hasn't swung by the Wanmin Restaurant in ages, though. Maybe our teacher is trying to protect her from me or something... Last time we hung out I was about to dig into some fresh raw octopus from the Sea of Clouds, but not only did she stop me from eating it, she sent our teacher to tell me off too! Hmm... I'm older, so I'd always seen myself as the senior chef out of the two of us, but sometimes, I'm really not so sure...

Character Details
"Coming, coming! Here's your Stir-Fried Filet! And your Mora Meat. And Fried Radish Balls, as you ordered."

In Liyue, there's a place called Chihu Rock, and there stands a restaurant known as Wanmin Restaurant.

One must remain focused if they want to keep moving forward on the bustling streets of Liyue.

Unsuspecting newcomers to this place are often lured away by wonderful culinary aromas or lead to peek inside stores by curious sounds.

Xiangling, who is both chef and waitress at the restaurant, delivers steaming, delicious dishes to the tables.

"Sit anywhere you'd like. I can make whatever you want, even if it's not on the menu!"

The workers at Wanmin Restaurant can recognize a regular, if not by their face, then by the first sentence out of their mouths.

A customer that orders without needing a menu has been at least a few times before. However, if they ask "Is Xiangling the chef today?" then they're definitely a regular.
Character Story 1
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 2
Xiangling has destroyed many a wok in her time. Either the insides would become irreversibly charred from the heat of a Pyro Slime, or cracks would appear due to flash-freezing from a Mist Flower — or, at some step in Xiangling's unconventional cooking process, a small-scale explosion would reduce it to scrap metal. After some heavy consideration on the part of Xiangling's father, he ultimately decided not to banish his daughter from the kitchen, despite the destruction she caused.

As reckless, imaginative, and uninhibited as she may be, it was exactly these traits that led her to create her most successful dishes. "Maybe this isn't so bad..." He tried to convince himself.

Suffice to say that payment for a new wok is a regular feature of the restaurant's monthly ledger.

When Xiangling decided to learn to be a chef, her father handed her his own handwritten cooking journal, his life's work. That line was written on the title page.

If she was any other person, she would likely have regarded it as some cheesy inspirational quote. However, Xiangling regarded it as a priceless treasure.

To her, her father only secured his footing in the forever-ongoing war between the Li and Yue cuisines by upholding that principle.

However, at that time, the conflict between the two styles was white-hot, with many restaurants feeling the pressure that arose from it. Wanmin Restaurant was no exception.

"Good food is good food, period!"

The monopoly on luxurious ingredients such as matsutake and crabs infuriated Xiangling, her angry response to which was to take over in the kitchen.

It was time for her to build upon the foundation her father gave her and make some changes.

"I'm gonna make super-delicious dishes out of any ingredient!"
Character Story 3

Xiangling's liveliness is disastrous for the hilichurls of Jueyun Karst. They one day awoke to find their fighting clubs gone.

Of course, the flora in Dihua Marsh did not fare any better.

After all the work she put in, she finally created some new recipes, such as Hilichurl Club BBQ Fish and Horsetail Sticky Rice and Meat...

She'd never create anything new if she just stuck to the recipes of her predecessors.

One must break with common conception if they are to carve their own path.

When Xiangling finally created her crowning achievement, the Chef's Special Cold-Dressed Fowl, her father paid the price, needing to resort to simple white congee for two days following.

"Mint and Qingxin Flower seem to induce diarrhea..."

She learned a valuable experience to add to her journal.

Strange. She ate her own dishes, but nothing ever happened to her. Xiangling did feel guilty though.

Maybe it was because she was young and healthy, or had somehow built up a resistance to certain toxins... One may never know.

Whenever a customer asks what exactly was the perplexing creature that follows Xiangling around is, she tells them the story:

There was a sudden downpour one day when Xiangling was on her way to fetch some Violetgrass. Halfway there, she was already tired and hungry. She stumbled into a cave, and came across a strange shrine.

So she sat down by the shrine, and took out two pieces of spicy cornbread.

She gobbled down one, but left the other one on the shrine, intending to eat a little later, but then promptly fell asleep.

When she woke up, the other spicy cornbread was gone and a mysterious creature was sitting in front of her, staring.

"Was it good?"

It nodded.

"More?" She took out some jerky from her backpack.

The mysterious creature nodded once again.

This was how Xiangling made a new friend. It seemed to be drawn to Xiangling's cooking, as the creature started following Xiangling around wherever she went.

Xiangling named it "Guoba," after her favorite childhood snack.
Character Story 5

After sampling every dish there was in Liyue, Xiangling's culinary skills drastically improved. Her specialty spicy dishes earned the praise of even her father, a veteran chef with over two decades of experience.

She created her unique and complex flavor profile through a generous helping of chili peppers mixed with fruits and herbs for increased aroma. She also created what became the signature dish of Wanmin Restaurant: Black-Back Perch Stew, which combines the richness, color and strong flavors of Li cuisine with the fresh aromas and nutritional content of Yue cuisine.

Some have tried to copy her recipes, but try as they might they can never quite reproduce the way her cooking tastes.

"Braise fresh Violetgrass overnight. Dry, then grind to a fine powder. Sprinkle into any dish for an aromatic boost."

This is one of Xiangling's secret recipes, arrived at through a painstaking process of trial and error.

In Xiangling's case, that means countless bouts of diarrhea, countless bruised knees bashed on rocky cliffs, and countless wasted potfuls of food that didn't quite turn out as expected.
Xiangling's Map
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 4
This map of Teyvat is lined with dense notations in various colors, and if you read closely, you can find the places where Xiangling has been, and where she intends to go in future.

"The shellfish of the shallows around Guyun Stone Forest are unmatched in their freshness. They say that 'here be sea monsters'?"

"Sea monster meat tastes great. Should look for Beidou to go fight another one. Will steaming them with eggs make them taste better?"

"There's a dragon in Mondstadt? Great! I just need three days of provisions to get there."

"Valberries are sweet. Lots here. I'll bring a basket. Take some back. See if they'll grow."

"This Mondstadt restaurant's Sautéed Matsutake is way too luxurious! They should just sell the matsutake. Ooh, what if I fry some with Jueyun Chili? Sounds good already. Might as well borrow a kitchen tomorrow and give it a go."

"Haven't found the dragon yet. Am I in the right place?"

...
Vision
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 6
"You can make something super delicious out of any kind of ingredient."

Xiangling earned the approval of a Vision by shouldering this ideal in a wholehearted and unreserved manner. Even when she would make dishes that could be called "horrifying," her desire to keep trying to match ingredients would never waver.

"Ugh... Qingxin Fried Lizard is actually kinda bad. I think lizards should just be stone-grilled in future."

"Slime fried rice is also rather ordinary. Maybe we'll try putting mushrooms in a slime jus next time."

Though her friends fell around her during the epic battles with the taste of her dishes and advised her to turn back, Xiangling never stopped thinking about how to turn these "special" ingredients into delicious food.

In Xiangling's innocent and persistent heart, as long as they were not poisonous, there were no good or bad ingredients.

Her Vision, after all, proves that even the gods approve of such thinking.

She is an off-field character that deals high dmg and can apply pyro consistently.
-Being an off-field, her dps persists even outside of combat. Meaning, all her dps is just an addition to what your main dps does on field.
-Compared other off-field, her dps % is much stronger. Her E at lvl10 can deal 800% pyro dmg. Her Q at lvl 10 deals 200% pyro dmg, AoE, 11-18 times depending on cons and your character’s movements(not counting 487% initial hit). Additionally, it also snapshot’s with Bennett’s Q, the bonus XL had while on the effect persists during the entire duration of her Q.
-Speaking of her Q, her Q applies pyro every hit. No ICD.
-at c6, her E reduces pyro res, and her Q increases pyro dmg.

Just to add. A lot of the strongest comps in the game involve XL.

1 expample. With Chongyun, she can apply cryo very fast because of her hits. Add Xingqiu, she can freeze enemies and melt them at the same time. With Bennett, her dps skyrockets.
This is why this national team of 4stars is very good. Better than a lot of 5star comps, actually.

Xiao does too. So does Eula. Hu Tao needs xingqiu to be good. Ayaka needs both a battery and Xingqiu to be good. Ganyu won’t survive rushing enemies alone. Zhong li and Venti are just bots, useless alone. Raiden will be laid upon a statue if she is alone. Diluc, Klee, Keqing and other B-A tier 5stars only gets decent when with allies.

So what are you even saying???

That is her only caveat. So with 4pc emblem and the new polearm, she becomes a pyro archon.
Even without that, she is easily solvable with Bennett, plus with the added bonus of snapshot boost.

    • I also run vape XL but come on! on 5 October 2021 at 3:49 pm

Whoever is saying she’s literally unconditionally better than all the other 5* Pyro DPS units is smoking some good stuff, lemme tell ya.
Is XL the best value DPS for resin & mora? Yes.
Is XL one of the top DPS units? Yes.
Does she need a lot of investment? Also yes.
But she is not the uncontested best, that’s not up for discussion. Why? You ask?

there’s 3 (there’s more but I’m *trying* to be brief) reasons why people haven’t dropped every other DPS into the trash, aside from the fact that there’s non Pyro oriented content and that you need another DPS for abyss.

    1. Supports: in order for XL to reach her (admittedly very high) damage ceiling, she needs two supports, that being Bennet (which means you remove him from another comp), and a Hydro enabler (any Hydro but Barbs will do). Doesn’t sound like much, I mean hell, you even have a free slot for a 5*! But people don’t realize that this would neuter anyone’s team possibilities. Amping reaction teams are the only ones you see for XL for a reason. SHE NEEDS VAPORIZE!
Or else her damage output drops from the sky like a political dissenter in Pinochet’s regime.

    2. Investment: now hold the phone, I just said she was the best value for resin & Mora, did I not? Well yes, but no. Barring the obvious resin costs for ascension , you need to consider the previous point, she needs supports, and well-invested ones at that. Now, she’s not a picky eater, but I’m telling y’all from experience, it’s a really bad idea to only have one member of your team do real damage, no matter how ass-blasting it is. True, you *could* put a level 1 Xinqiu with Sac Sword and pure ER, but then you’d have to pack a shield to protect him, taking your free slot away. You’re gonna build her supports, and you’re gonna like it!

    3. Constellations: not really a major drawback, considering her competition also has this argument going against them, but still worth bringing up. XL doesn’t *need* constellations, but in the same way you don’t *need* money to live. Sure, you can build her without accounting for that juicy 40% extra duration and/or 15% Pyro bonus. Sure, you could go live in the woods and feed off of Gaia’s bosom, but in the end, it’s much more comfortable to do neither.
    you want that C4, period.

TL;DR: if you don’t have any 5* Pyro DPS, XL is your next best choice, she’s versatile, strong, easy to build and play, and she’s flexible to boot! But she’s not the best, she needs good supports, of which her 2 best ones are really contested, and she really wants C4.

      • Lolwut on 6 October 2021 at 7:56 pm
      • Reply

I may surpise you pal, but EVERY pyro dps requires Xingqiu (except Yoimiya, because she can barely utilize reactions) and the only pyro dps who doesn’t want Bennet is Hutao because she can buff herself and going above 50% HP will hurt her damage output.
Also, since Xian’s pyronado has no ICD she can proc reactions with every hit, so melt is always an option.

Still doesn’t take away form his points. Especially considering no one ever lists the caveats that XL has compared but are quick the list the caveats of other dpses.

      • Madam High Ping on 3 November 2021 at 8:05 am
      • Reply

Points 1 and 2 are just general caveats. It is actually lighter on XL compared to others.
Based on personal experience, she only needs to be internally invested like most main damage dealers. She can be supported by lightly invested characters.
I beat abyss with her by just using a barbara main, with Bennett stacked with HP 4pc Noblesse and Sucrose with random 4pc VV. She is flexible with whoever is to support her and whoever she needs supporting. She can go with Childe, Xingqiu or Barbar. She can go with two of either Ayaka, Ganyu, Kaeya and Rosaria. She can apply cryo quick enough by Chongyun. Anemo like Jean, Kazuha, Sucrose or even Sayu. She can go pyro with Hu Tao. Anyone with Lavawalkers love her.

Point 3, as you said, is not really a major drawback. And if you look at her cons, they are just boosts: reduces pyro res, increases Q duration, increases pyro dmg. Without cons, she still performs mechanically the same. Still, depending on when you had started, she had been fairly distributed. She was part of the first banner and had appeared multiple times since then. Add that to the fact that you can have 1 free XL.

Her only real caveat is energy. With 4 polearms that give ER, an artifact set that compensates focusing on ER, and a plethora of pyro battery whom she can also support with her pyro shred/dmg boost, the same is already mitigated at worst.

To everybody who think that Xiangling is the best dps in the game, go check the leaderboard for speedrun on the floor 12 -> https://spiralabyss.org/leaderboards?event=floor12

Xiangling does not dominate the leaderboard and that is fact not some bullshit TC. TC tell you that Xiangling is the best but they omit the fact that it is a conditionnal statement.

Xiangling is a good dps only if you cant afford yourself a real dps.

      • KazuhaSimp on 3 October 2021 at 5:49 am
      • Reply

Speedruns are irrelevant to the overall community, their goal and the goal of the average abyss player could not be completely different. The average player is looking to beat abyss and/or beat abyss with 9 stars.
Xiangling’s value comes from the fact that she is a very strong character that every genshin player has access to, that she synergizes incredibly well with Bennett and that there isn’t really a deep mechanical complexity to using her (no need for walk cancels, dash cancels, jump cancels, etc), just Bennett E Q -> Xiangling Q E and go ham with rainswords.
What TC i suspect is trying to tell you is that if your goal is strictly ‘i wanna 9 star abyss’ One of the most efficient resin/money or otherwise to do that goal is to use Xiangling & Co, it’s why it’s generally the first team that’s recommended to you if you’re struggling on Abyss 12.
“Xiangling is a good dps only if you cant afford yourself a real dps.” Please do elaborate on what a ‘real dps’ is. Is it the Liyue trio? Is it Raiden? Is it Outrider Amber. This game constantly blurs the lines of what a ‘dps’ and a ‘support’ character is supposed to do. characters do many things: enable, drive, buff, heal and others. we can’t just close ourselves to define chars with little labels.
Where i could see people generalize ‘Best Pyro DPS for the masses’ into ‘Best DPS!’ is that many Pyro characters want Xingqiu and/or Bennett, two very contested supports.
Xiangling often is the one that can best utilize both very well and deal an equal or greater amount of damage compared to other Pyro focused compositions, this of course only applies to free or low spenders. Buy C1 Homa Tao and we’re not talking the same language anymore. But then we’re playing a different game.

Speedrun teams are inherently different from what normal teams are, front loaded damage dealers and dual or triple ‘carries’ are possible because these characters when decked out far surpass what entire teams do, most top contenders have incredibly invested characters with signature weapons and/or constellations. Trying to discern anything meaningful from these charts apart from awe is fool’s errand. This is not NES Mario or 64 speedruns where everyone is on the same playing field, we all know how unforgiving artifacts can be, there’s also the factor of money.

Do you see where I’m going? It’s almost as if Genshin was made to be played around team comps.. lol. At least Bennett is a four star, and you get Xiangling for the low price of zero. Decent investment on Xiangling will carry you through content in this game just as well as your hyperinvested 5* with BiS weapon. This is what we mean by S-tier.

            • You kid on copium on 27 August 2021 at 9:38 pm

Smh So you mean S-tier DPS? than write the ‘DPS’ before the word ‘S-tier’. If you just say it S-tier, it makes you sound like a kid who high on copium. I never said she was bad. She is a good dps. But lining her together with Bennett and Xingqiu (the true S-tier characters) feels like an insult for the boys. They can solo almost all contents in the game.
At the end of it, an DPS character is a replaceable unit. If you don’t like their playstyle, just replace it with somebody else. I personally, hate Gouba. That thing makes me frustrated.

Xiangling doesn’t do as much ST damage, but it’s close enough that it literally does not matter, since she could do THAT damage but AOE. The hardest end-game content in the game currently (abyss) requires AOE damage, and very rarely ST.
