Guide to Afterlife
Only an unwavering flame can cleanse the impurities of this world.
Hu Tao consumes a set portion of her HP to knock the surrounding enemies back and enter the Paramita Papilio state.
Paramita Papilio
• Increases Hu Tao's ATK based on her Max HP at the time of entering this state. ATK Bonus gained this way cannot exceed 400% of Hu Tao's Base ATK.
• Converts attack DMG to Pyro DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion.
• Charged Attacks apply the Blood Blossom effect to the enemies hit.
• Increases Hu Tao's resistance to interruption.
Blood Blossom
Enemies affected by Blood Blossom will take Pyro DMG every 4s. This DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG.
Each enemy can be affected by only one Blood Blossom effect at a time, and its duration may only be refreshed by Hu Tao herself.
Paramita Papilio ends when its duration is over, or Hu Tao has left the battlefield or fallen.
Hu Tao's Secret Spear technique is based on several rules, the first of which is: "The spear opens the path to the afterlife, and the butterflies bridge this world and the next."

Spirit Soother
Commands a blazing spirit to attack, dealing Pyro DMG in a large AoE.
Upon striking the enemy, regenerates a percentage of Hu Tao's Max HP. This effect can be triggered up to 5 times, based on the number of enemies hit.
If Hu Tao's HP is below or equal to 50% when the enemy is hit, both the DMG and HP Regeneration are increased.
Supernatural activity by those who have already left this world is a source of great anxiety for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. In such cases, cremation always lets Hu Tao find peace of mind. The more anxious she feels, the stronger the flame.

Character Details
The 77th Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, a young lady managing the parlor's operations. Despite her position, she's an amiable person who puts on no airs.

Her antics are as plentiful as the sand on Yaoguang Shoal. She never ceases to shock people with her countless bizarre ideas.

Hu Tao may seem like all play and no work, spending every free moment on leisure and being widely considered a laissez-faire business owner.

It is only during funeral ceremonies, when she personally leads her undertakers through lamp-lit alleys, that she shows her dignified and solemn side.
Character Story 1
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 2
Funeral ceremonies allow mortals to leave this world with dignity.

And Liyue's Wangsheng Funeral Parlor is said to be painting the last strokes on the scrolls of people's lives in the most respectful way.

Traditional funerals include multiple steps such as holding a wake, burial, putting up a memorial plaque... All of which are subject to strict rules.

Regardless of their social standing and level of wealth, all who depart deserve a ceremony that would do them honor. This is the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor's client service philosophy.

One would think that such a reputable organization ought to be led only by an individual of utmost learning and sagacity.

Yet the heavy mantle of the 77th Director has fallen on the shoulders of a young lady like Hu Tao.

She has got quite a reputation in Liyue. Whenever someone mentions Hu Tao, their neighbors find it extremely hard to navigate the conversation.

Although she is widely praised for her wit and shrewdness, her eccentric notions are not as welcome, as she often lets her imagination run wild.

As a three-year-old, she would read through volumes of classic texts while doing handstands. At six, she would cut classes and fall asleep in coffins. When she was eight, she started living in the parlor and learning the etiquette of funeral ceremonies...

One would never use the word "measured" to describe her behavior.

During her teenage years, Hu Tao was tasked with conducting a funeral ceremony for the first time.

The parlor's undertakers and consultants were anticipating her debut with their stomachs in knots as if they were suspended over the peaks of Jueyun Karst.

Fortunately, Hu Tao treats the parlor's operations with the utmost importance and is always looking to grow her business.

"At the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, the living give us Mora to see the dead on their way. We have a responsibility to both parties, so we gotta make sure both sides are happy."

When it comes to the parlor's rules, Hu Tao knows them all like the back of her hand.

Each day when the parlor closes its doors, Hu Tao invites consultants from different walks of life to pass their teachings on to the undertakers.

"The funeral tradition is like science. It cannot be performed based on impressions and personal habits."

Of all the lecturers, Zhongli is the most revered one. As such, his lessons have proven to be the most effective in cultivating the competence of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor's undertakers.

Despite often being teased by Hu Tao due to his old-fashioned style, he is also the person that she trusts the most.

Apart from that, Hu Tao always instructs her undertakers to respect their clients' wishes and not insist on any particular form of funeral.

"Some clients want nothing more than a peaceful ceremony, some opt for a more lively style of event. There are also wealthier clients who would request a funeral arrangement of the most pompous kind. The services we provide have to be tailor-made according to the clients' needs."

Ever since Hu Tao took over, the parlor's operations have been solid and reliable, with ceremonies conducted so tactfully that quite a few superstitious people in Liyue have changed their attitudes towards funerals.

Even so, Hu Tao still has a tendency to wander off, disappearing as soon as her undertakers are busy listening to lectures.

The hobbies and interests of this young director are just as eccentric as her personality, and yet it is difficult to say with certainty if those activities are of a purely leisurely nature.

Hu Tao's shadow can be seen in the moonlit docks or at the highest, most precarious viewpoints in the mountains, where she's likely to take in the scenery and shape her thoughts into beautiful poetry.

She loves to roam freely at night, looking for inspiration. When it strikes her, no matter where she is, she cannot help but compose a poem on the spot.

If they are particularly lucky, the traveling merchants taking respite around the Huaguang Stone Forest can spot a mysterious girl keeping herself amused in solitude.

Hu Tao can play a four-player card game accompanied by no one for hours on end.

That said, the joys of engaging in such activities remain a mystery to all but Hu Tao herself.
Character Story 3
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 4
The Ministry of Civil Affairs is guarded by two life-like stone lions, a symbol of power and authority.

However, Hu Tao, who happened to be passing by the ministry building one day, saw them in a different light. At first, she examined the lions with a thoughtful look, but soon enough, her pensive face gave way to a wide smile, as she slapped them on the fore-paws.

From that moment on, Hu Tao often visited and petted the stone statues. Not only would she talk to them, but also give them pet names — Whiskers for the one on the left and Mittens for the one on the right.

On occasion, she would even bring a bucket of water and a big brush to bathe them, each move so careful and deliberate that one might think that they were her actual pets.

As it happened, another feline, a living and breathing calico cat, could be found enjoying the local delicacies in front of Xinyue Kiosk, not too far from the ministry building. One day, some city folk came to play with the restaurant's favorite, providing an interesting foil for Hu Tao's peculiarities. Met with befuddled gazes of the bystanders, Hu Tao showed unwavering confidence.

"Sure, your kitty's cute, but the same can be said about my Whiskers and Mittens. Their fur might be harder, but they're still just as fluffy! Any animal that brings people joy may become a pet. And when it comes to majestic looks, your little fur-ball simply can't measure up to my lions!"

Suffice to say that this explanation was met with even greater consternation from the onlookers.

Yet the group of people shocked the most and most often by Hu Tao's antics were the ministry guards. Soft footsteps could often be heard in front of the building at around midnight. Initially, the guards suspected that it had been a thief preparing to rob officials. To their unceasing surprise, it would turn out to just be a young lady playing with the stone lions.

The guards were faced with an even bigger conundrum when, once everyone had reluctantly got used to her presence, Hu Tao discontinued her visits.

That meant that the responsibility for cleaning the statues fell on the guards' shoulders once again.

Subsequently, they decided to keep guard by the lions for many days, anticipating Hu Tao's return. Once they finally had the opportunity to ask her why she would not visit anymore, they received the most absurd of answers.

"Whiskers and Mittens are adults now and can take care of themselves! Excuse me, I'm running late for my heart-to-heart with a Statue of the Seven regarding the meaning of life!"

Not long after her initial meeting with the little zombie, Hu Tao decided that, as her self-proclaimed true friend, she should grant Qiqi eternal peace.

Hu Tao would go on to kidnap Qiqi several times following much deliberation in every instance, including calculating the most auspicious time for the ceremony, aiming to follow the standard procedure of cremation, after which she would place Qiqi in a tomb on the outskirts of the city.

In fact, she would have succeeded already if not for Baizhu's timely interventions.

Each time the Bubu Pharmacy's owner managed to catch up with them, Hu Tao had already had Qiqi packed in a bag, with only her head sticking out, staring in utter confusion as Hu Tao was vigorously digging a hole for the pyre.

Afterwards, Hu Tao sent Qiqi an apology letter, in which she expressed deep regret that she had not been able to lay Qiqi to rest fast enough.

In Hu Tao's eyes, Qiqi passed away a long time ago, but has been trapped in this world and cannot free herself of her eternal suffering.

Baizhu, for his part, had grown ever more relentless in his pursuit of eternal life after meeting Qiqi. This act of defiance against the cycle of life and death was unacceptable to Hu Tao.

She wanted to bury Qiqi not only out of consideration for her friend but also to restore the natural order.

But Qiqi could not disagree more, as she was afraid of death and disliked Hu Tao for her attempts.

Because the struggle between Hu Tao and her had been going on for so long, Qiqi has experienced a breakthrough. She has started to remember places where she might hide to avoid being captured by Hu Tao.

Perhaps it was due to those desperate survival efforts that Hu Tao decided to do something unusual and dig deeper into Qiqi's past.

The story of her accident and the mystery of the adepti... That series of coincidences filled Hu Tao's heart with hesitation.

Since Qiqi's will to live is so strong, she should not be forced to move on. Given the circumstances, she could only be treated as a rare exception that eludes the natural laws.

Ever since, Hu Tao's attitude towards Qiqi has changed drastically, to the point that she would pamper her.

Unfortunately, the damage has been done and Hu Tao has become Qiqi's bugbear. The little zombie may need several years more to let go of her grievances.

Hu Tao is not, in fact, best known for her role as Director, but for her other great accomplishment: the creation of poetry.

She dubs herself the "versemonger of the darkest alleys," and free verse flows forth untamed from her mouth whenever she has free time to be out on the streets.

The "Hilitune" is Hu Tao's most famous work, well-loved not only by the people of the harbor, but ever on the lips of children as far as Qingce Village as well.

Hobbyists and critics alike were greatly surprised by the simple but profound originality of the "Hilitune" and its creation, and went to Wanwen Bookhouse in droves to search for the works of this great poet. Unfortunately, Hu Tao's anthologies, named "Fiddlesticks" and "Of Common Lives" respectively, have yet to be published.

Xingqiu, ever immersed in books, also wanted to meet this strange person, and so chose an auspicious date to visit, bringing a gift with him.

The two hit it off immediately, and they exchanged pointers and impromptu poetry in Wangsheng's main hall — and when faced with the poetry of Xingqiu's traditional, artistic bent, Hu Tao could always return in kind with some strange and marvelous verse.

And there was meaning in the chaos, indeed, a rhythm to the bizarre that anyone could perceive, and it was catchy, too.

Thus did she "beat the old master with untrained fists," leaving Xingqiu at a loss for words.

At length, the poetic spar ended amiably, and they have been friends ever since, reading and composing poetry with one another when they have the time to meet.

Over time, Chongyun, too, was pulled in to serve as an umpire, their laughter filling the streets.

The poems born from these sessions would also be recorded by bystanders.

If ever you should hear a pair of matched verses, one strict and the other playful, you are most likely to have heard one created jointly by Hu Tao and Xingqiu.
Harmony Hexagram Hat
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 4
This hat is somewhat on the hard side, and the insignia of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor adorns its front.

It is said that this hat was passed from the 75th Director to Hu Tao. However, that director was large, musclebound, and had a head at least two sizes larger than hers.

Ultimately, Hu Tao had to spend an entire day and night to modify the hat with her own hands such that its dimensions would fit hers. When she meets others, she tells them: this hat is magical, upholding good and repelling evil, and is a bringer of peace!

The undertakers laugh and leave it at that, but the 77th Director clearly does treasure that hat.

No matter the rain or storm, or if Hu Tao returns late covered in muck, that hat will remain spotless and clean.

The plum blossom that adorns the side of the hat is plucked from a plum tree that Hu Tao planted and grew herself.

Its creation process is as follows: pluck and air-dry, then paint, lacquer, and outline carefully before sun-drying for three days and voila — a beautiful accessory, soft to the touch and bearing a delicate fragrance.
Vision
Unlock ConditionUnlocks at Friendship Lv. 6
This tale should begin with the funeral of Hu Tao's grandfather.

Ten days before the funeral itself, Old Hu had passed away following a bout of illness. For its 75th Director, Wangsheng Funeral Parlor held a grand funeral, in accordance with the last wishes of the old man himself, to be conducted by Hu Tao.

Only thirteen at the time, Hu Tao, who would later go on to become the Director in turn, made all the arrangements herself to the highest standard, greatly impressing the undertakers.

After the funeral, the thirteen-year-old Hu Tao grabbed her traveler's bag and crept out alone in the dead of night. In her bag were only a few rations, some water, and a means to create some light. She was headed to a mysterious and seldom-seen frontier.

Heading straight from Wuwang Hill, one may arrive at the "border." It is the line that separates life and death, the secrets of which have been managed by Wangsheng Funeral Parlor for generations. According to legend, it is a place where the souls of past relatives and the spirits of those with unfulfilled aspirations linger. For Hu Tao, this journey was a chance to see her grandfather once more before he departed forever.

For two days she journeyed unceasingly before finally arriving at her destination, yet was unable to locate her grandfather upon arrival. Between the innumerable spirits she walked, but not one of them resembled the old man.

She stayed there the whole day before falling asleep in exhaustion, awakening to a night sky and heavy dew. Around her were gathered a few lone spirits, clapping and laughing:

"Silly girl, why would Old Hu be here of all places? What were you thinking, looking for your relatives here?"

Not one to be swayed so easily, Hu Tao continued to wait, day after day. Her rations gradually disappeared and her water supplies drained away, but her grandfather did not appear. In the end, it was a little old woman who came to her.

She laid eyes on the exhausted Hu Tao and smiled as she spoke: "Look at your stubbornness, you're exactly like Old Hu. It's a shame, but none of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor Directors would ever linger here. You come from a family of plain speakers, so let me return the favor... Go back. Go back to where you came from."

The old woman bid farewell to Hu Tao, before passing over the border and into the distance. Hu Tao watched as the figure of the mysterious woman grew smaller and disappeared, as a sense of doubt tinged with relief manifested itself.

At last she came to the conclusion: her grandfather's absence was due to him having passed over the border as soon as he'd arrived, to the place where he was bound. He had been open and honest in life, leaving behind no regrets, so was it right for his departure to be framed in regretful terms?

With a smile, she set forth on the return journey.

The faraway moon had been casting a thin light on the way over but had now been replaced by the bright light of dawn. As she walked, Hu Tao thought of a saying that her grandfather had often quoted: "Live in life, die in death. Follow your heart, do what you can."

It was noon when Hu Tao arrived home. She climbed over the wall into the rear courtyard, went straight to her room, and unpacked her travel bag.

With her food and water long gone, and the rest of her belongings unpacked, the bag she had taken for empty instead contained a colorful Vision. Just when had it arrived?

As one of the few living that had dared to visit the border, perhaps Hu Tao's actions had moved some unknown god.

Perhaps this then constituted a heavenly gift... the ultimate recognition of her strength.

Hello! I’ve been maining Hu Tao ever since her first debut and I still hope to increase her damage dealing capabilities but don’t really know how anymore. What stats should I focus on to make her better?

    Hu Tao (Lv.90)
    Max HP: 31,684
ATK: 3,629 (with Homa under 50% buff)
EM: 80 (+125 from albedo burst)
    ER: 130%
    Talents: 10-10-9
    Artifacts: 2 Crimson witch + 2 Wanderer
    CRate and CDMG: 65.7%/284.4%
    Pyro DMG Bonus:
    Weapon: Homa R1
    Cons: C1
Most Used Team Comp: Hu Tao-Xingqiu-Zhongli-Albedo (Geo Reso.)

Id you’re willing to reduce comfort, using a vv vape team will increase the damage output. You can use sucrose/kazuha for anemo unit and thoma/amber(recommended only if you have elegy, but if not still a better offensive option since she can utilize instructor set better than thoma).

A vv vape team will be better for these reasons:
      1. the geo damage from zl and albedo can steal vapes since when these two units crystalize together, or when hu tao’s normal vapes and one of them crystalizes, the hydro applied will be gone and the charged attack will not trigger vaporize. thoma can also steal vape but it occurs mostly only if you are doing n2c without c6 xq.
      2. Sucrose/kazuha can further buff your team. sucrose can give more EM than albedo as well as give ttds to xq if you choose to do so, kazuha can give more dmg% to BOTH xq and hu tao.
      3. Putting a 4-piece instructor on the pyro support on your team can give even more EM(120) to hu tao
      4. you get pyro resonance which you can argue to be weaker than geo resonance but you still get the same res shred in total and get more buffs from the units themselves, which makes the tradeoff worth it

I don’t have Kazuha but I do have an 800-ish Sucrose so I think that’ll do, Is there any other alternatives to Thoma or Amber Elegy? I haven’t got Thoma at all and don’t have the Elegy bow. Thanks for the tips as well!

I also main Hu Tao, and my team consists of her, Kaeya, Mona, and Jean.
I like to freeze my enemies with Mona and Kaeya, then use Hu Tao’s Pyro to deal serious damage (melt damage is the best elemental reaction in the game damage-wise), then finally use Jean to swirl around the reaction. My tactic works phenomenally.
With Hu Tao individually, I suggest focusing on artifacts like 2 or 4-piece Crimson Witch for Pyro DMG, 4-piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence (if you want to focus on her charged attack rather than her burst) and/or 2-piece Tenacity of the Millelith for HP to increase her skill’s ATK.
I hope you find this helpful!

You make me ashamed to be a Yoimiya main. There’s no need to talk trash about other characters regardless of their performance. If any of ya’ll played Honkai then ya’ll would know that Mihoyo will eventually powercreep all the past characters in order to advertise the new ones. At the end of the day, we all enjoy playing Genshin and thus, we shouldn’t be attacking one another for meager gain.

“Not only yoimiya Vape’s she Overload’s and Electro Charge’s fluently at the same time” I assume you are talking about her being a taser team driver? If so, literally switch her with sucrose and that team instantly becomes better. Hu Tao can also be placed in that place, and very effective especially against heavy enemies, proccing more overloads because her CA doesn’t have ICD, meaning she can proc reactions on demand. But then again, sucrose is still way better to be placed in that team.

this opened my eyes. i wouldnt believe if there were no videos since diluc ranked higher than vape hutao. i love hu tao and in my head she’s high up there but i’d agree most of the the top 10 and all of top 5 are better units than her. they are stronger and have better teams plus less mechanically intensive. it’s not really a question of whether you can beat abyss or not, it’s how easily and how fast you do it. thats why i got C1 and homa or else I would probably have benched hu tao and not used her in abyss. i asked around about the NGA abyss leaderboards and its pretty wild how good the chinese are in speedruns. some of the runs looked really comfy to play as well and worth copying.

On that hu tao vape team, that guy isn’t even cancelling properly (sometimes even cancelled to early which means no CA ), he is not even using a vv vape team, which is way better than that team especially against the dogs which has higher resistance.
The artifacts that Hu Tao used has:
67,7 CR, 33,4 CD = 168,8 CV which is quite low. But made up somehow with other substats
      Supports:
XQ C5, (55,2 CR, 66,8 CD = 177,2 CV almost about average) Sac sword
      Albedo C0 (59,5 CR, 81,6 CD = 200,6 CV above average) R5 cinnabar
Mona C0 with talent level 8

Also, for the raiden hyper team, that team is literally fighting against ELECTRO DOGS which has -resistance to electro by default. Also that’s a C2 Raiden,
      From artifacts, Raiden has:
70,4% CR, 87,8 CD = 228,6 CV, which is high
      Bennett has AQUILLA, C5, crowned
      Kazuha 688 EM with fav
      Sara with SKYWARD HARP, C6

Your Itto video does not give any details on the character

      Your yoimiya taser video:
      Yoimiya artifact:
      46,3 CR, 125,9CD = 218,5 CV, also high
      T.Pulse
      The supports:
      Fischl with POLAR STAR, C6, (31,1 CR, 160,9 CD = 223,1 CV | high)
      Beidou with R5 SERPENT SPINE (36,6 CR, 146,1 CD = 219,3 CV | high)
      Bennett with C6, SKYWARD BLADE

Now let us just take the clear time and assume that everyone has equal investment, and of course nobody else has a 5 star weapon other than the one that we put spotlight on, and take those time as a scale to compare power level of these characters. Obviously those extra investment on the artifact and on the supports doesn’t matter at all. Obviously.

Just give it a rest. hu tao wont get near them even if she had better stats. she already has her best constellation and the best polearm in the game. did you bother to watch the other teams? look at international, the eula teams, the melt ganyu team, the ayaka team, the kokomi team all of which beat the hu tao vape team.

look at the diluc team. hu tao has way better stats than him (the hutao vape team not even the mono pyro) but still cleared faster. hu tao’s issue is that she’s too single target. thats the reason why the mono pyro hu tao team did better. she scales with investment, but the other dps are just way better than her.

Why did the Itto mains come to cope after they lost there 50/50? Genshin is a team-based game, stop acting like an mono-geo Itto team with fully built supports doing more damage than Hu Tao solo is shocking. Maybe it would be debatable if Itto was Pyro, he is one of the weakest elements. Not being able to use reactions to maxamize DMG is a huge DPS loss.

My hu tao doing around 38k vape dmg with charged atack, while my yoimiya with the same artifacts doing 53k vape dmg per simple shot, what i’m doing wrong or it’s another momet like “you need staff of homa and c6”?
There is a many characters that doing more damage like eula, xiao, arataki itto, ayaka, raiden shogun, but no, ayaka’s 40k per charged is smaller than hu tao’s 35k, hu tao is the strongest!

Thank to god, now some are starting to notice all this, and i hope i will see a big meta changes soon.

      Yoimiya scaling (T9):
      59,94% x 2
      115%
      149,49%
      78,07% x 2
      178,04%

Sure, every single shot does 53k. Sure, the last shot which has 178,04% scaling does the same damage as my second shot which has 115% scaling. Sure thing. Ignore the fact that you have to do the complete combo to deal the one shot that does the most damage in her NA combo chain meanwhile Hu Tao’s CA which even if in your case is doing less damage is performed on demand. Let’s also just ignore the fact that Hu Tao’s damage is also not only the CA but the normals(which is always performed before a charged attack) exists. Also ignore the difference on investment on both character. Let’s do all of that and say yoimiya is better!

For sure, i need to say that there was a small difference between the investment: in my test Hu tao has a dragonsbane r5, yoimiya – amos bow r2, but hu tao’s talents 7-9-9 and yoimiyas 10-8-6. Asrtifacts are the same as i said. It’s full shimenawa set.
You are right, i forgot to write about hu tao’s NA before CA, thanks for that, but if you remember about speed of yoimiya’s atacks that will not have a big impact.

Pro tip for new players: do NOT pull for Hu Tao. She is awful for AoE in abyss. At C0, you will be out of stamina all the time and unable to run, dodge or use charge attack.

And even at C1 with Homa, she is worse than a C4+ Xiangling with The Catch. As a subdps and pyro enabler, Xiangling will also remain relevant for many years while Hu Tao has fallen out of the meta very quickly (since the release of Eula&Ayaka&Raiden, not to mention Ganyu earlier).

So do yourself a favor, build Xiangling with The Catch and save your primos.

I agree that xiangling C4 is better GENERALLY. However, in exclusively single target Hu Tao is still better even if you are competing with raiden national. As for the part where you said “fallen out of meta very quickly (since … Eula&Ayaka&Raiden, …)”, I have to disagree because Eula and Raiden is not necessarily better than Hu Tao.

For the last part of your comment, although I agree that you don’t need to pull Hu Tao, it’s up to the players to decide for themselves on who to pull. If the player cares about doing more single target damage (for whatever reason), it’s their choice to make the decision to pull for Hu Tao.

LMFAO, I don’t need to discuss anything else with you. Clearly shows how incompetent you are if you need the abyss website to find the meta, which hasn’t been updated since like, last abyss.
Even if supports have higher usage rate than DPS, Ganyu, who is thought to be one of the best, is still outclassed by “one of the worsts”. If Kokomi was all that bad she would literally just not have that high usage rate because people would prefer using different supports.
Also, the only way to find the meta? That’s a fucking LOL. This is what no theorycrafting does to a mf, this is why some people genuinely think double geo Hu Tao is her best team and why people don’t know about Sukokomon despite outclassing Morgana with only one 5 star.

    • Hu Tao Guide! on 22 December 2021 at 2:03 pm
    • Reply

    THIS IS CALCULATED DATA!!!!!
Hu Tao is a very strong pyro DPS, and this is a guide!

    !NOTE
-This data shown is based of if you were using HP Sand/Pyro Goblet/Crit circlet, this is calculated from crit hits only.
-Crit Dmg substats weapon will be calculated with Crit Rate criclets. Crit Rate is calculated with Crit DMG circlets. only to make it look realistic and not a “Nuke build” (For things like abys and other hard domains.)

    !Weapons:
    5*
-Her best weapon would be the Staff of Homa, even at R1, can stop HP cap, super good amout of Crit DMG! Passive is super good, increases HP and ATK by HP. I recomond pulling for this weapon if it gets a rerun, thanks to the fate points added in 2.0 you will need 240 pulls for this garenteed.
-Jade spear, second to Homa, Ok amout of Crit Rate. Alot of Base ATK. Will stop HP cap.
-Skyward spine is Okay weapon. There are some 4* weapons such as blackliff pole and Death Match dealing more DMG (Don’t be upset if you have this and dont know who to put it on Xiangling loves this weapon with 4pc emblem.) This option still has an amazing passive (As it gives some Crit Rate and gives extra DMG.) Can still deal DMG. Alot of base ATK, will stop HP cap. The ER will help Hutao get her burst up and keep her from Dying. CALCULATED WITH CRIT DMG SINCE THE PASSIVE PROVIDES CRIT RATE^^^
    4*
-Blackliff Pole, good amout of Base ATK to stop HP cap, good amout of Crit DMG. This is a good FTP option
-Death Match, good amout of Base ATK, good Crit Rate, will aslo stop HP cap. This will not be an FTP option, it requires you to buy BP.
-Dragons bane, good amout of base ATK, enough to stop HP cap. You will need Xingqiu for this weapon otherwise I don’t recomond it and recomond using Blackliff pole if your F2P, or other 5* weapon if you were lucky enough to get it, maybe even an R5 White Tassel. CALCULATED WITH CRIT RATE^^^
    3*
-White Tassel, this is only recommonded if you have r5 and no other opions. Okay amout of Crit Rate, but this may not stop the HP cap depending on your substats. The passive will only effect auto attacks and not charges.

    !ARTIFACTS

    *Main stats
    Sand HP/EM
    Goblet PYRO
    Circlet: CRIT

    *Substats
    -Crit Rate/Crit DMG, EM50%.
-Burst heals her so you don’t die, also deals a ton of DMG.
-Charge attacks while using skill will apply a “Blood Blossom” this will attack an enemy and mark them every 4 seconds with pyro DMG.

If I made mistakes please tell me!! 🙂

EM sands is usually better than HP sands since Xingqiu is stuck to Hu Tao anyway. Especially if you have Staff of Homeless. I’d only recommend an HP sands when you’re running her with dragon’s bane.
In the end though, use the one with better substats. But 100+ EM is needed on a normal Hu Tao team rotation.

ayaka is not better than hu tao. they are pretty equal, but ayaka is stuck in freeze team while hu tao can actually improve her dmg with vape (EM). ayaka’s burst is stronger but her NAs and CAs are not, and that’s what you use most of the time.

um ??? her CA’s are hu tao’s charged attacks without reactions additionally contrary to popular belief ayaka charged attacks are really good that copled with infinite infusion technically makes her a better unit but tier lists in genshin are kind of bad because xiao at 2 enemies out damages hu tao and as of now theirs only 1 boss in abyss so yeah just because we’ve been deluded to believe hu tao is second best and xiao is somehow worse than her in eveything doesn’t actually make it true if we say Aoe literally even hu tao’s burst can’t save her because after she casts it she goes back to being single target espicially on ruin enemies and magu kenki who mind you is getting lone gale and his cryo form next abyss with mask of terror(the form we always fight) which is practically an Aoe check which guess what is a limit in hu tao’s kit that can’t be fixed with constillations same with how nothing in xiao’s kit fixes his single target dps which is also exactly why hu tao will tank next patch in abyss, because even though everyone is shitting on itto he is basically geo c1 hu tao in his burst state and his charges have an extremly decent aoe because you can rewatch the trailer if you want but his aoe is the whole cleave and not just the weapon hitting people, all in all hu tao is a good unit I will never deny this but don’t go out trying to say she’s somehow the second best hell even ganyu isn’t the best dps in game she’s really good (and also a mistake) but she isn’t as broken as people claim her to be though i’ll be able to talk more about this hopefully in 2.4 seeing as I don’t own her right now

LMFAO how can u be so stupid dude
-hu tao does have AoE outside of burst; her CAs are not single target “contrary to popular belief”. People just do animation cancels so they can finish everything up faster, but in abyss, i’ve found that doing her whole CA animation makes her AoE (a lot better than bow/catalyst units at least) and you don’t even lose a lot of dmg in the process.
-Itto is NOT a c1 hu tao. hu tao has access to anemo users like sucrose, kazuha, etc that can pump up her dmg SO much; and youre mostly gonna be using her with them. In fact, the double geo hu tao comp is severely outdated; regardless of what people make you believe. Hu Tao + Xingqiu + Sucrose +pyro applier is A LOT better. Not only that, but the reason why people shit on Itto is because while his raw dmg is massive, he does not have any access to reactions, swirl, or any of the likes; and is supposed to be run in a mono geo team with a 70 energy burst. basically xiao level unit.
-hu tao has constant uptime on her E as well if you’re actually using her properly kek. Apply pyro from unit + xingqiu QE + sucrose E+NA + Hu Tao E; rinse and repeat. You get constant E uptime; this rotation is infinite.

            • osmanthus wine for raiden on 21 November 2021 at 3:15 pm

you can’t dash through ruin enemies or bosses which is why I in my comment brought up espicially agains ruin enemies and bosses additionally it’s such a low chanche to line them up perfectly that tc’s don’t count her charged attacks as aoe

            • @ osmanthus wine on 22 November 2021 at 3:52 pm

girlie do anemo charas for CC not exist now?? did you even read my comment?? its not hard AT ALL. also nah ayaka isnt doing 100k CAs LMFAOOO get that copium out of here. that is literally the quivalent of me saying hu tao’s burst dmg is better than ayaka’s LMFAO

            • animation cancel on 8 December 2021 at 2:47 pm

You have to remember that delaying her animation cancel does mean she is losing dps since she is doing less CAs. So in term of AoE, she will still lose damage even though you can just delay your animation cancel. Also, just use xiangling instead if you want to go AoE since she will do better than Hu Tao

Raw Power = Ayaka is stronger
Vape/Melt = hutao is stronger ( against single bosses )
Charged attack ( raw ) = pretty equal
Charged attack (vape/melt) = hutao stronger
Charged attack against single target = hutao is stronger
Charged attack against multi target = ayaka is stronger

*In some cases where you only fight single target enemy (especially 2 phase enemy) hutao will take advantage but when it’s comes to multi target enemy she fall behind ayaka

ayaka has the strongest burst currently in the game but only for eosf/(sup dps)quick swap ayaka. eula has way more aoe and a one time dmg burst and even more dps outside of it but can’t be plaed as quick swap. ayaka does not that much damage outside of her burst compared to hu tao with reactions(ayakas aa aoe is still s*** and takes too long so way too less dps, sry). also blizzard strayer suffers about the none necessarily of building artifacts with crate what makes it look like easier to build to begin with but in realtity it’s the other way around. have fun getting only cdmg. it’s almost one of the most unrealtic sets to get the right stats with. crate + cdmg is easier to get with hu tao. I still prefer ayaka + hu tao for 100% melt and strong aya perma burst eosf set with no hydro char/cryo battery waste and still reliable dps thanks to hu tao which easily puts out 50% more dmg outside of ayakas burst then aya. AND NOT TO MENTION WHAT HU TAO DOES WHILE IN AYAKA BURST BOTH BUFFED WITH KAZUHA/BENNETT(OR ZHONGLI). IT’S STILL THE MOST BROKEN SINGLE TARGET DPS OUT THERE!

are you high? 80 cv is A LOT (more than 10 rolls on crit rate substat) and this is still the best dps set for anyone that can use it. Sure, only wanting cdmg circlet is “hard” but it’s still harder balancing cr and cd in Hu Tao since it is more reliant on substat, and if your substats are too heavy on C.Rate, you still also want C.Dmg circlet not C.Rate. You can really see these in a lot of people’s Hu Tao where they have 50 crit rate and 220 crit damage even though they are already using C.Rate circlet.
Also, the team comp of Ayaka + Hu Tao is generally ONLY used on speedrunning scenario which means you need to have a whale investment because you want to just kill them in 1 rotation and if not you are just losing damage compared to Ayaka freeze or reverse vape hu tao.

Depends. If you’re rocking TP or R5 Rust on Yoimiya you SHOULD be doing a metric shitton of damage.

Still, you should out easily DPS as Hu Tao with a proper handle of her mechanics + stapling her to XQ.

Basicly Yoimiya’s DPS higher than Hu Tao’s.
(Yoimiya with Rust ~ Hutao with Staff of Homa)
BUT! Yoimiya strongly needs a shield support. While Hu Tao is a “tanky” character with self healing.

      If your Youmiya Teamcomp is:
      Yoimiya-Xingqiu-Benett-Zhongli

Then Hu Tao Teamcomp may be:
      Hu Tao-Xingqiu-Benett-Beidou

you as hu tao user either don’t use jump cancels with c0 or dash cancels with c1 and probable no vape whatsoever. when you press e with hu tao you only goal is to do charge attacks with hu tao for max dps which can be canceled by either jumps or dashs. dash offers a bit more attack speed and i frame btw. also yoimiya has an internal cooldown on vape/melt hu taos charge attack in the other hand does not. that’s why she is stronger than yoimiya
